St.Patrick's High School had a humble beginning with 35 students
on roll in the year 1911. In the month of April of that year Fr.H.Colli, its founder
presented the first batch of boys to the Madras Middle School Certificate
examination. The school was then under the supervision of the Inspector of
European Schools.
In 1916 Standard VII was added and strength rose to 102.
In the year 1918 Classes were started for Infants.
In the year 1921 Fr.C.Arosis and FR.P.Berette were appointed as
Rector and H.M. of the school respectively.
In 1923 Fr.Vas was appointed as the Rector of the institution and he served
the institution for 18 long years. During this period a lot of developmental
works had taken place. To him goes the credit of making St.Patrick's a full
fledged High School in 1936, the year it
celebrated its Silver Jubilee.
In the year 1936, Brothers of St. Gabriel took over St.Patrick's.
Br.Eugine was the Rector and Principal of the school. Later Br.Baptist
introduced the present House systems among the students for healthy
competition.
In 1948 Br.Marcel took charge of the school and the strength of the
school in 1949 rose to 397.In 1952-53 Br.Amosce was appointed as incharge head
master of the school. Regular annual sports meet were held from then on. St.Patrick's then
was the champion in the Cricket game organised by the Inter School Athletic
Association.
In 1956 Br.Stephen, the Principal handed over the school back to the Diocese.
1958 Rt.Rev.Mgr. Alfred Fernendes was appointed Principal. He discontinued
the Cambridge curriculum and adopted H.S.L.C.
In 1963 Fr.A. Udumula was appionted as the Principal. He not only beautified
the school by laying gardens but also built the whole new block and the open air
stage. He also renovated the house of prayer. By now St.Patrick's had grown to
a strength of 1600 boys.
In 1973 the school was handed over to Society of the Jesus, more familiarly
known as Jesuits. From then under able stewardship of the Jesuits, headed by
Rev.Fr.Balaiah, S.J. the architect of the Andhra Region, and the Principal
Rev.Fr.Devasia, S.J. experienced a continuous progress. The first step taken by
Fr.Devasia was to have closer contact not only with the students
but also with the staff.
In 1985 Rev.Fr.M.Louis Philip, S.J. became the Principal. He introduced the Parent's visit
on 2nd Saturday of every month to discuss about the child's progress. Keeping in mind the
feelings of slow learners "rank system was replaced by grade system. Old building
was
demolished and play ground was extended. A spacious and well ventilated building was
constructed for KG and Elementary section. He also introduced the Computer education in the
year 1989. During this period the school celebrated its Platinum Jubilee.
During his period the school strength of the school increased to 3750.
In 1991 Fr.Joseph Sandanasamy S.J. took over the school as Principal.
He beautified and constructed the basketball, tennis and skating grounds. Annual
Exhibitions were organised during his period. He encouraged
the students towards environment protection. He extended the Residence of Fathers.
Fr.Karunai Dass S.J. was the Principal from 1994 to 1997. Along with academic development he
encouraged and organised excursions for students.
In 1997 Fr.Gnanadevan S.J. became the Principal. His first priority was
the upliftment of economically and academically poor students. Study hours and
remedial classes were introduced. Parents' visits on second Saturday of every
month was made compulsory. HAM radio club was started. Street children were
given opportunity to study and play after school hours. State and District Level
Science Fairs were successfully conducted. St.Patrick's Old Boys Association got more
recognition during this period.
In 2004 Fr.C.Williams S.J. became the Principal.
He was calm,serene, bridge between the old and new. He was communicative and was very patient. During his period the remedial classes for slow learners was introduced.
In 2007 Fr.M.A.Alex S.J. became the Principal.
